Tabi basa & greetings everyone. Today I’d like to share about Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday also known as “Rabu Abu” in Malay, and “Andu Taruh Abuh” in Bidayuh Serian.
For Christians around world, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent season (Prapaskah), a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, penance and almsgiving in preparation for the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The biblical foundation of this can be seen in Jesus’s 40 days of fasting, praying and enduring temptation by the devil in the Judean wilderness immediately following his baptism by John the Baptist.
In his Lenten message 2026, Pope Leo XIV invites everyone to do a very practical and frequently unappreciated form of abstinence: that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbour. Quoting Bishop Richard Ng during Ash Wednesday mass, words, once spoken, cannot be taken back.
As we begin this Lenten journey, may this time of reflection, humility and renewal strengthen your faith and brings you and your family closer to God.
