Tabi basa & greetings everyone. In this post, I would like to share about my journey-to-date as a motivation speaker based in Miri, apart from being an emcee & photographer.
PROLOGUE
Since 2017, I have been giving the honour to give a talk at Curtin University to the first year and foundation students, as well as to the Catholic students of Curtin. During COVID, my motivation talk was put into a halt, but it doesn’t stop me from practicing. The MCO is really a time to test one’s resilience. Once COVID was no longer a threat, the talk resumes. The most recent one was conducted July last year, I gave a talk to the Chemistry Foundation students.
With over 14 year of experience in oil and gas industry, I gave insight to these aspiring students as well as giving them a motivational talk, as a testament that even the local Dayak lad also can achieve his dream.
WHY?
This is the question that I receive a lot. Some of the comments that I receive includes – Why do you need to give a motivation speaker if they know what they need to do? For example, students know that they need to get a good grade so that they can graduate. Young adults & new joiners in a company know the company policy and KPI.
Well, that’s where the differentiator lies.
Being human, we tend to take the path of least resistance. After a while, we tend to automate and follow a certain habit. Without realising, it is ingrained in our subconscious.
That’s why, we need someone to remind them about the thing that get them started in the first place. For students, they need to know who they want to be in the future. For young adults, they need to know what they want to achieve. This is something that I wish someone told me when I first started working.
MY MOTIVATION
The things that I have written above are the one that I wish I knew when I was in school and when I started working. Learning from one’s own mistakes can be expensive, but it is better than not learning anything at all. That’s why, I would love to impart my wisdom to the younger generation so that they can make sound decisions for their own future. Other than that, it is my way to do the things that I love – which is oratory.
I also was invited to give a talk about Christian Faith Challenges in the year of 2023, a wonderful session with fellow Catholic students of Curtin.
