Revisiting B&W Photography: Face It With A Smile

Tabi basa & greetings everyone. In this post, I’d like to share some of the images captured recently. As I was capturing these images, there was one message that plays in my mind: the song by Dewa – “Hadapi Dengan Senyuman” – or “Face It With A Smile”.

Prologue

It has been a while since I last wrote shoot in black and white. These days I often spend my time singing and talking, though at the back of my mind, I am thinking about photography.

So, armed with my trusty Noctilux, and schwarzweißfotografie, here are some of the images captures.

That reminds me to why I pursue photography in the first place, which is to immortalise memories around me.

Here are some of the motivational material for your reading pleasure.

Curiosity of The Unkown

Born into this world, we are like a white canvas. We do not know anything, yet are curious about what is happening around us.

As a child, we want to know about consequences if we do this, do that and a lot more. Blessed with an abundance of energy, like an Energizer battery mascot, as long as our stomach is full, enough sleep and an empty bladder, it is time to explore the world.

We interact with anything and everyone around us. As long as our parents are around, we have nothing to fear because they will act as our guardian, keeping us away from harm.

The Learned Fear

However, as we grow older, we learned about the world. Unfortunately, we also leanred about fear of the unknown.

It is good to prevent us from being harmed but there more than one occassion that is it is crippling us from making the move because it “doesn’t feel right” at that time, though at the hindsight, it is actually an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Fear of the Unknown

In simpler term, it is our survival mechanism, driven by our brain. As humans, we tend to favour certainty over uncertainty although it is sometime not favourable in the long term.

You will never know, it might rob you from the opportunity that you have been waiting for? No ones about that anyway.

When Undesireable Outcome Occurs

However, let’s not forget that we have the control in our life, where we can maintain control over what is happening in our life. When an undesireable outcome occurs, don’t panic, but take your time to assess your options.

One of the worst thing that you can do is to take it to the social media and post emotional stuff that you might regret later.

Why don’t you fill your stomach first? You will think better if your stomach is not empty.

Decision made under emotion is seldom a good one.

Options, Options

If you cannot brainstorm your options, it is time to get some help from someone that you can trust, and can navigate your out of this mess. Usually one would turn to their spouse or other half.

However, if you still cannot think of your way out, that is where your connection or network matters.

An example would be your senior, father-figure or basically anyone with the right capacity.

Most importantly, you need to figure out your out of this mess.

What’s Next?

Once you have a full picture of your potential options, or you can call it your roadmap, you can take your time to assess which one is right for you.

Just because a door is closed doesn’t mean it is the end of the world.

Epilogue

Often, a rejection is a redirection. I believe that there is a reason behind whatever that is happening in our lives. As long as you are willing do the necessary works, greatness is never truly far away.

In the meantime, whatever happens to you, face it with a smile. Have a fruitful week ahead!
