Tabi basa & greetings everyone. We are about to enter the final week of January in the year of 2026 AD. It was a rocky start of a year, but just hang in there. No matter what you are working on, I believe that you can do it and achieve it.
In this post, I would like to share a thing or two about life at village.
VISITED BIDAYUH VILLAGE BEFORE?
When was the last time you went to a Bidayuh village at Sarawak? For me, it is a place where I was raised ever since I was born.
My childhood revolves around Bidayuh life: village, culture, customs, games and climate. For the first seventeen years of my life, I spent it at Pichin, with occassional visit to Siburan to meet my relatives.
Siburan is another Bidayuh area as well.
Bidayuh village will be much more alive during festive season, especially during Gawai, followed by Christmas. That is when those working outside of the village will go back to their beloved hometown and stay there for at least a week.
For some, it only a few days due to other commitments outside.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT BIDAYUH VILLAGE?
For me, the best thing about living at a village is the sense of belonging and it feels more secure. At village, we look after one another.
We have our own community leader, which we call Ketua Kampung / Village Chief, assisted by Zone Leaders since our village is quite large.
Think of it as Hokage, assisted by his own clan leaders, except we don’t have a clan, and none of us uses ninjutsu.
There is a lot of things that I can write about it but I save it for another day.
THE WEATHER
I am blessed that my family’s house is situated at the hill side of the village, and flood is the least of our concern. The problem would be how to go around when there is flood. That is why it is important for us to stock up should the need arises.
The weather is usually hot in the afternoon, although in the morning it was chilling. Most people would need to use hot water for shower in the morning, unless you are one of those brave souls that love cold water.
THE RAIN
When it rains however, it will rain heavily. During one of my hometown visit, I managed to capture this scene.
I was resting at home when it rains. It started as a light rain, then gradually it became a downpour. I realised it was getting heavier. Therefore, I went up to the first floor, and have a look. It is heavy.
I went down to grab my my camera, waited for a while and press the shutter button. The old M Monochrom rangefinder shutter mechanism was loud, but it was overwhelemed by the heavy downpour.
I took few shots, but I decided to edit this one.
CREATE MORE, CONSUME LESS
Looking at that picture makes me realise that there is so much more to be captured. I should spend less time on mindless content consumption, but take my own time to create.
I could say the same about others in general. In the world where contents are easy to come by, let’s make a conscious decision to create: bond, artwork etc. You name it.
You can spend more time doing the things that you love most, spend your waking hours with your family or just simply taking some time off to recuperate.
One last thing, try to create more using your own effort.
