Tabi basa & greetings everyone. In this post, I’d like to share about the recent homily that I have heard during New Year Mass.
For info, a homily is a specific part of the Mass that comes right after gospel reading. Homily explains & expands on the readings and gospel.
Depending on the celebrant, it can be long-winded, repetitive, lack of engaging story & how it relates to the congregation (the audience).
As the result, they might feel disengaged, uninspired and make it “just another Mass/Sunday”.
However, once in a while, we will have a truly good homily. This is what we experienced during New Year Mass by Fr Augustine Singh.
Looking at the picture, you will notice that he is not standing at the usual homily location. He stands right at the middle, facing the congregation & interact with them.
His stories captivate the audience too. I am not sure about other part of the church, but right where I sit, people were paying full attention. Even though he is a Punjabi, he can speak good Bidayuh language.
BIble-sharing aside, the story that applies to everyone is that life is like riding a bicycle. We should always move forward to keep our balance. Otherwise, if we do not move forward, our life crumbles.
His word inspires me to reflect about my own life too.
No matter how miserable we think our life is, we have to move on from our past because the best things in life is yet to come.
If we keep on dwelling on our mistakes, blame ourselves, and do not give a chance for us to prove that we are worthy of all good things in life, we will not be able to harness our full potential.
In fact, the things that we achieve in life is directly linked to the value that we have. If we do not achieve what we want in life, it is a good chance to have a look at what we have done, our daily habits and what went wrong.
Even if we are not spending much money on material, probably we spent a little more time that we should on unnecessary matters?
Hopefully this new year 2025 brings more blessings, opportunities and fulfilment to all of you.
